OneCamp 2018 Informational Letter

Our theme at OneCamp this year is “REVEAL”. In Romans 8:19, it says "For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed". So that is what we are centering OneCamp on this summer.

We are excited to have Daniel Simmons as our Evening Speaker at OneCamp this year. Daniel is a Lead Associate Director at The University of Georgia Wesley Foundation. He oversees the Freshley Ministry, which ministers to hundreds of Freshmen each year! Daniel is married to Katie and they have three beautiful girls. We are thrilled and thankful to have Daniel come and speak into us at OneCamp 2018.

Our worship at OneCamp 2018 will be led by a collection of talented worship leaders from all across our Network.

Attached are a few details we feel you will find helpful to make your students camp experience the best it can be. Please read over them carefully and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!

~ONECAMP RULES ~

Campers are expected to abide by all rules.
  1. Please leave cell phones at home. Any cell phone brought to camp will be taken up by cabin leaders and returned at the end of the week. Phones are available at Mobley Hall anytime for free calls home. Parents may reach their children by calling 770-786-6926 (Emergencies only, please!!!) We do this because we desire our students to have a week that is set apart and we know that cell phones can be a huge distraction. Thank you for your understanding.
  2. Pranks are not allowed.
  3. No campers should be out of their cabins after lights out. Campers are never allowed to be in an unoccupied cabin. Any violation will result in an immediate return home.
  4. Male campers must stay on the male side of the camp and females on the female side of camp. Male campers are never allowed in female cabins, and vice versa.
  5. Campers MAY NOT drive, or ride in, cars during the week of camp.
  6. Smoking, drinking alcoholic beverages, or taking non-prescription drugs will NOT be tolerated. Any violation will result in an immediate return home.
  7. The following items should NOT be brought to camp: Cell Phones, iPhones, iPods, iPads, electronic games, electronic books/bibles, laptops, radios/CD players, skateboards, fireworks, drugs, or alcoholic beverages.
  8. All medical conditions must be reported and medications turned in at check-in. During camp, all emergencies must be reported to the medical staff.
  9. At worship, campers sit by gender-boys on left, girls on right!
  10. Campers are responsible for picking up their own trash! Please help us keep camp clean!
  11. All clothing must be modest. Girls – please bring a modest one-piece or tankini (midsection must be covered when arms are raised) swimsuits, only. Shorts should be modest in length. Tops should not have spaghetti straps, razor back, or be halter style and should cover your stomach - no bare midriffs. Swimsuits are not allowed to be worn in the dining hall. Pajama pants should NOT be worn outside of the cabin. Boys – shorts should be modest in length. Shoes must be worn at all times…except in the pool and in bed! Tennis shoes are encouraged to prevent falls! PLEASE use your best judgment in packing for camp. Camp counselors will ask campers to change into appropriate clothing if necessary.

 

~ TRANSPORTATION: Arrival and Departure ~

The buses are $25 for round trip transportation this year. You must reserve a spot and pay for transportation prior to June 16.

The bus loads from 12:45-1:15 p.m. and will leave from RiverStone Church (2005 Stilesboro Rd. Kennesaw, GA 30152) at 1:30 p.m. SHARP, Sunday, July 1st. *One Suitcase, one sleeping bag and one pillow*

We are scheduled to load up at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 6th, for the return trip home. Please meet the bus at the same parking lot at 12:45 p.m. (The bus will not stop for lunch). **Everything must be labeled and fit in one suitcase!**

If you are NOT riding the bus:

Plan to arrive at the camp between 3-4 p.m. on Sunday, July 1st. Please do not arrive any earlier or later. Camp closes at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 6th, and campers will NOT be allowed to leave early. Parents should arrive before 11:30 a.m. on July 6th if camper is not riding the bus home.

**Rising college students may drive to camp but they are to leave car keys with their cabin leaders upon arrival to camp. No other students may drive to camp.

 

~ DIRECTIONS TO CAMP ~

  • Take I-75 South to I-20 East. Go east on I-20 to Exit #93.
  • Exit and turn right onto SR 142. (There is a Wal-Mart on your right … one of the last good stops for items you may have forgotten!)
  • Travel approximately one mile and cross over US 278 at the old Wal-Mart.
  • Continue another 2.5 miles on SR 142 toward SR 36. (McDonald’s and CVS will be on your left as you approach SR 36.)
  • Turn left and go approximately 9 miles on SR 36 to the Georgia FFA-FCCLA camp entrance on the left (easily identifiable by the small Guard House and large entrance sign.)
  • Continue on entrance road approximately one mile.
  • YOU HAVE ARRIVED!

 

~ CHECK IN PROCEDURE ~

For Bus Riders:

  1. All check-in will be done at Riverstone Church prior boarding the buses.
  2. Make sure EVERYTHING you bring has a nametag: *One Suitcase, one sleeping bag and one pillow*
  3. Report all medical conditions or issues with the nurse at RiverStone during check-in. This will give us a chance to meet you and discuss any questions we may have.
  4. Please be sure to bring a copy of your insurance card with you and turn it in at check-in at RiverStone.
  5. A completed Medical Release MUST be on file prior to loading the bus.

For those driving to camp:

  1. Upon arrival to camp (between 3 and 4 PM), you will be given directions to the Dining Hall to check-in.
  2. Report all medical conditions or issues with the nurse. This will give us a chance to meet you and discuss any questions we may have.
  3. A completed Medical Release must be received in order to attend camp.
  4. Please bring a copy of your insurance card with you and turn it in at check-in in the Dining Hall.

 

~ WHAT TO BRING ~

Everyone needs:

___camp clothes (including messy clothes)
___tennis shoes (closed toe shoes must be worn for all games)
___sandals
___rain gear
___costumes for special events (see Things to Know)
___toiletries
___sleeping bag or blanket and sheets
___pillow

___wash cloths. Other items you may want to bring include: swimsuit (one piece/tankini suits only -see specifics under “rules” ladies)
___flashlight

___camera
___extra batteries for camera
___sunscreen
___bug spray
___baseball
___glove
___ping pong paddle

 

~ THINGS TO KNOW ~

*Evening Activities

Each evening we schedule awesome activities such as a color rave, dance party and pool party! As we get closer to Camp, we will send out information regarding special items to bring like clothes to get messy in, white clothing for the color rave or special themed items.

*Leisure Groups

Don’t forget to bring necessary equipment (guitars, tennis racquets, etc.) for the Leisure Groups you signed up for. Photographers … you may bring your camera but you will be responsible for it during camp. **We try to honor all leisure group requests, but some groups may be full, and we will assign you to a similar group if possible. Leisure groups cannot be changed at camp!!

*Spending Money

You may want to bring extra spending money for snacks and beverages available during free time. Our “Resource Center” is returning this year, in which CD’s, books, journals, t-shirts, track bags, etc. will be available for sale.

*Evening Worship Service Schedule

Parents are invited to attend our evening worship services. We will let you know our worship schedule as we get closer to Camp.

*Medical Services

A physician and a registered nurse will be at camp. They will dispense all medications, treat illnesses and camp emergencies. Over-the-counter medications that will be available in the infirmary are Aspirin, Tylenol, Motrin, Aleve, Claritin, Benadryl, Neosporin, Kaopectate.

*Morning Teaching Time

Our morning teaching time this year will be led by Steve Hambrick, Pastor of Vintage242 Church. Steve is a deep well and we are thankful for his willingness to invest in our students.

*Morning Thing

"Morning Thing" is our game time together each morning. Get your game faces on and be ready for lots of fun!

*Teaching Impact Groups

Teaching Impact Groups are topically based groups where students can choose what they want to hear about that day. Each of the teaching impact groups is centered on our theme and designed to help us live the life God is calling us to live. There are 8 teaching impact groups students self-select when signing up for OneCamp. Each is designed with a focus on helping students see how they can more effectively pursue God’s mission in each arena of their lives.

*Financial Assistance/Camp Balances/Fees

It is our conviction that no student should miss OneCamp due to financial difficulty. For this reason, we help as much as we are able to. If you are in need of help, please apply for financial assistance as soon as possible. Each church is handling their own scholarships so please contact your network church. If you are not connected to one of our network churches please visit www.1camp.org and click the Camp Info, Financial Aid tab.

All remaining balances for camp are due by Friday, June 23rd. Camp fees are not refundable after camp begins!
